David Berkman, Camp Director

David Berkman comes to Camp Kalsman with a wealth of camping experience. A product of URJ Camps, David was selected as Camp Kalsman’s first director for his expertise in informal Jewish education, his management expertise, and his love of camping. Working within the URJ Camps system since 1997, he held Senior Assistant Director positions for URJ Camps in Texas and Pennsylvania before joining the national staff as the Associate Director of URJ Camping in 2005. He served with distinction as the project manager for Jacobs’ Ladder, a distribution center for hurricane relief supplies established by the Union for Reform Judaism near Jackson, MS that delivered more than 3 million pounds of supplies to those in need after Hurricane Katrina.
A Colorado native who grew up in Texas, he holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas and a master’s degree in management from the University of Denver, Daniels College of Business. David is an avid scuba diver and loves to travel. Summer 2011 will be David's 30th summer at Camp!
Briana Holtzman, Assistant Camp Director

A native of the Pacific Northwest, Briana grew up in the Seattle area. She was an active member of NFTY-NW while in high school, and attended NFTY’s Eisendrath International Exchange – semester in Israel in the Fall of 1999. Briana attended American University in Washington, DC where she graduated in May 2005 with a bachelor's degree in Law and Society. Though she loved Washington DC, she’s glad to be back in the Seattle area! From 2007-2009, Briana had the pleasure of serving as the NFTY-NW Regional advisor. Briana was a part of the first cohort of the Foundation for Jewish Camp's Yitro Leadership Program for Assistant & Associate Camp Directors.
Currently, Briana is in the part-time MBA program in the University of Washington's Foster School of Business and was honored to be awarded a grant from the Foundation for Jewish Camp - Robert and Elisa Spungen Bildner Fellowship. In her very little free time Briana loves hunting for the perfect cup of coffee, trying out new recipes, and exploring new places near and far. Also, every year she claims she is going to learn how to snowboard.
Heidi Love, Bookkeeper/Registrar

Heidi has lived in the Pacific Northwest for over 15 years and has been with the URJ for several years, starting as the registrar for Camp Atid, Camp Kalsman’s predecessor.
She has many years of experience in camp and workshop registration, database management, development assistance and volunteer coordination. Heidi has worked for non-profit groups such as Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle, where she is still a volunteer, and the Hands On Children’s Museum in Olympia. When not at work, she enjoys spending time with her family, dragon-boating, roller derby, reading, learning, hiking, bicycling, and enjoying the great outdoors.
Scott Hayman, Director of Development

Scott works to secure the philanthropic funding necessary for underwriting Camp Kalsman’s expansion and camper scholarships. Development expertise gained over 16 years is highlighted by Scott’s success in major gifts and capital campaign fundraising, and complemented by his private sector experience in the hospitality and financial services sectors. Scott has a Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership from Woodbury University (Burbank, CA) and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Saint Martin’s University (Lacey, WA).
A native of Los Angeles (CA), Scott developed a love for the Pacific Northwest while residing in Alaska and Washington, and traveling the region as a United Jewish Appeal fundraiser. Married and father of two adult children, Scott resides in Seattle. He is a member of Temple Beth Am, where he teaches in the synagogue’s 9th grade “Activist Judaism” program.
Scott is an avid runner, who also enjoys camping, hiking, canoeing, and exploring Washington. Passionate about Judaism, Scott has visited Israel many times, manages the Greater Seattle Jewish Business Network, and is a JFS Polack Food Bank volunteer.
